As I draw ever closer to 100 finds I can't stop myself from thinking back to my very first find. This is the story of my first find. If you want to share a story click on over to the contact me and tell me about it!
I believe it was January of 2014. I didn't have a handheld GPS only the one that I keep in the car. I had been watching videos from The Geocaching Vlogger and really wanted to get out there and find a geocache before investing in anything. I didn't personally know any geocachers so I devised a plan. I had been looking to see where different geocaches had been placed on the way to my husbands grandparents house. One in particular caught my eye. It was right on our usual route and it was at a location that we frequently stopped to get out and stretch our legs. I spent plenty of time reading over old logs and looking at pictures which proved to be extremely helpful in my hunt.
Based on the pictures I had an idea of where to look. A sign. I probably spent about 5 minutes poking my fingers in little holes and searching the ground. I was just about to give up when I remembered a picture of one smaller sign that was attached to the post of the larger sign. I looked at it and then thought to look down. I couldnt see anything so I stuck my finger in the small space created by the post. I felt something hard. My heart started to race, could this be it, could this be the geocache. I pulled the object out and it was indeed a geocache. This one in particular was a film canister. I popped it open and found the log and hastily signed my original geohandle (I don't even remember what it was). My husband was impatiently waiting in the car so I placed the cache back exactly where I had found it and got back in the car with a smile on my face.
That first film canister changed my life. I officially became a geocacher. I knew from that moment on that this was something that I would do perhaps for the rest of my life. I have planned whole days based around geocaching, been to an event and even placed a couple of my own.
I would love to hear your stories about your first geocache find!
